Harriet Moffat

I started volunteering because I love dogs and puppies, and I continued not only because of the amazing network of people I have met through foster and puppy caring but the feeling of working towards the goal. It’s an incredibly hard, time-consuming, enjoyable and rewarding experience which can hopefully end in someone benefitting from the assistance of a Seeing Eye Dog.

Having seen one of my dogs Willow graduate and go on to help someone, I feel so motivated to continue and help create more partnerships which is the goal that makes a lot of effort (and even the ‘goodbye’) worthwhile.

I started off at Vision Australia as a kennels volunteer, then from there started foster caring and have now moved onto puppy caring, having been a carer coming up to 3 years now. It’s a bit of an addiction, but a healthy one. Having the pup by my side keeps me walking, is a source of stress-reducing cuddles, and is a great way to volunteer whilst learning about dog behaviour and health, too. I also have been able to volunteer in the puppy centre helping the young pups prepare for a journey to hopefully become seeing eye dogs.

For the past few years doing part time intern work at Vision Australia, I have been working behind the scenes on the SED radio show organising guests, content and questions for the interviews. Over the last year I've been lucky enough to host this amazing show and enjoy chats with a variety of guests about interesting dog-related topics, often with a dog sitting in the studio with me. It's a passion project of mine and I love working on it.

You can tune into the Seeing Eye Dogs Radio show on Mondays at 4.30pm.
